A note from the program leader...
I'll be your writing cheerleader, like having a personal trainer, but for writing instead of lifting weights. The program is about you completing your screenplay, to have you writing as quickly as possible while avoiding delays and distractions.
I've been writing under deadlines for years as a journalist, writing for magazines such as Writers Digest. I've also written many screenplays that are currently out at studios such as Fox and Paramount. And, I have a Hollywood agent.
The most significant step to fast writing is to be clear about what you want to write first. I'll help you map out what you want to write. We'll create a writing plan together to achieve the goals you desire. Then I'll help you meet your plan. I'll check on you daily by email. We'll be in touch as needed, by AIM, phone or in person, so I can help you over any writing rough spots you encounter.
We'll work one-on-one. No classrooms. No lectures. No quizzes. Just writing, writing plans, and some encouragement when you need it. Unlike a classroom, you won't be held back to the pace of others in the course.
You'll receive daily emails from me. I'll ask if you're meeting your writing plan and provide encouragement. If you get stuck, I'll help you get unstuck and moving forward again.
We'll rapidly review the basics of screenwriting, such as the ten crucial things that every successful screenplay achieves. We'll cover genre and characterization.We'll review the simple rules of story structure. We'll cover screenplay format and how to use screenwriting software (either Final Draft or free alternatives). We'll cover how to write a killer first ten pages, which is where your screenplay will live or die with studio readers. We'll look at how to punch up your script, make it more powerful with humor.
