re: THE CORSET DIARIES
Dear Sir or Madam,
My writing partner and I have just completed writing our newest screenplay, The Corset Diaries, an upbeat family comedy based upon the best-selling novel by Katie MacAlister (published in 2004 by Onyx, a division of Penguin Books). We have optioned the rights to the screenplay and are looking for an agent ready to handle this type of fun commercial project.
The Corset Diaries
by Gabrielle Pantera & Robin Rowe
120 pages.
LOGLINE: An American divorcée visiting England puts on a corset and enters the suppressed lifestyle of a Victorian duchess as part of a British reality television show. Can she catch the man of her dreams and can they together catch ghosts haunting the estate?
SYNOPSIS: TESSA is a last minute replacement in "Victorian House", a British reality TV show. A group of oddballs tries to live life just like people did in Victorian England. Tessa, a shy American, arrives at the remote country estate in a motorcycle sidecar after getting off at the wrong train station. Her overbearing lady's maid CRIGHTON soon wrestles her into a corset, and Tessa can't even breathe. Romance sparks between Tessa and MAX, the show's duke, but his 12-year-old daughter MELODY can't stand Tessa.
Ghostly noises in the house keep Tessa awake at night. She enlists Max to catch the ghost, but they fail. During dance lessons before the big ball, Tessa confronts the show's pompous German director WARNER, accusing him of faking the ghosts. Instead, she finds out he's only faking being German. The batty housekeeper MRS. PETERS says the ghosts can't stand Americans, that is, Tessa. During a séance the ghost appears but eludes Tessa and Max. At the last big ball Tessa catches the ghost. It's KIP, the show's assistant director. But it was Tessa's best friend ROGER, the show's producer, who's behind it to boost the show's ratings. The show becomes a hit. Tessa moves to London to live happily ever after with Max and Melody.
The Corset Diaries screenplay has been workshopped in readings with actors before a live audience. We have honed it to be funny and entertaining, to be true to the book and yet original. Our background as writers is in journalism. One of us was a newspaper entertainment journalist and for four years literary critic at Romantic Times Magazine, the other writes articles for magazines such as the Motion Picture Editors Guild Magazine about the making of motion pictures such as Superman Returns and Harry Potter.
If you are interested in taking a look at the script, please phone or email me. I will mail it for your review. We're happy to sign a release form if you need that. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Gabrielle Pantera & Robin Rowe
