Welcome!
Are you ready to take your screenplay development to the next level? Would you like to write faster and be able to pitch your stories better with greater confidence?
Screenplay treatments, synopses, and scene cards are powerful tools professional writers use to streamline story development and enhance marketing. Nobody else offers a course like this, not USC, not UCLA, not AFI. This exciting course covers these vital tools and the advanced topic of reverse adaptation. Five-week course starts October 1st and has pre-course bonus sessions happening on Sept. 25th and Sept. 30th. Read the syllabus to see the schedule. Don't miss it!
A great treatment beforehand saves time writing your screenplay. It's the map of your screenplay, your defense against writer's block. After you've written your screenplay, a great treatment is an indispensable tool for pitching and marketing your work. We'll look at examples of treatments from recent films and TV series, and the techniques for writing your own...whether you're doing that before, after, or in the middle of writing your screenplay. You'll be improving your treatment skills throughout this course, creating great tools that support your projects.
Your one-page treatment, scene cards, and multi-page synopsis can all work together, accelerating your screenplay development process without becoming a burden. And if you hate outlines, you can be glad none of these is an outline. We'll look at differences between feature and television treatments. We'll dig deeper to see how treatments relate to pitches and coverage. And, we'll examine reverse adaptation, how to create a novel, children's book, or graphic novel after you've written the screenplay.
If you've ever wished for a course like this, and what writer hasn't when having difficulty writing or pitching, there's no excuse for missing it. Typical busy Hollywood life? Wondering what you'll do when you miss a class? How you'll catch up? Or, are you a writer outside Hollywood, wondering how you'll get to the classes at all? It's all covered...
We'll be meeting weekly both in person and electronically through conference calls. The conference calls will be one-hour sessions where I introduce concepts and have industry VIPs give their insights. Our in-person meetings will be informal study sessions, an opportunity to review homework and work together with other writers. If you have to miss that, you can. If you have to miss a conference call you can catch up in the study session or at a make-up conference scheduled later in the week. So, no excuses.
