Industry mixer

Come join the fun at ScreenPlayLab's monthly film and television industry mixer.

It's been called the most fun and engaging of all the Hollywood industry networking events. Mingle with industry players in all aspects of the business...writers, producers, actors, managers, cinematographers, composers, more. ScreenPlayLab is the most positive outgoing group in Hollywood.

ScreenPlayLab tips for being good in the room...

1. Although the mixer is a party, it's also everyone's opportunity to practice being good in the room, to be someone who people remember as wanting to work with someday. Please come to the event as your most upbeat self.

2. Be ready to tell a brief positive story about yourself, where something you did in the industry turned out better than you expected. Maybe you nailed an audition, got a meeting, whatever. Present yourself as a winner, as someone who is thankful for any successes.

3. Avoid giving opinions on second-hand information. Do not talk about Octo-Mom or Britney Spears or anyone else in the tabloid news who you don't know personally. You may be speaking to someone who does know them. Regardless, you don't want to be remembered as the one who talked about Octo-Mom.

4. Avoid complaining or mentioning failure, which is the same thing. Nothing succeeds like success.

5. Work the room. Meet as many people as you can without rushing. Let people know what you aspire to do, that maybe they can help with. Ask every person how you can help them. If you can't help, try to suggest someone who can. Offer your connections, not your advice.

6. Say the other person's name at least three times in conversation. It shows you're a people-person. Others will be silently grateful that you helped them to remember names.

7. Say your name at least three times per conversation. Make it easy to remember you.

8. Say what you like or admire. When someone offers good news, be enthusiastic.

9. To encourage others to talk about themselves, ask how they got started in the business.

10. When you leave, don't forget to say goodnight to your host. That's me, Robin Rowe, or my partner Gabrielle Pantera.

Be good in the room. Thank you!

Robin
